Utoo Radio with Other News Sources - October 29 2025 - The Canadian Human Rights Tribunal is hearing a case from the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation against the federal government regarding the alleged systemic underfunding of on-reserve schools in Ontario.

The First Nation claims that Canada's education funding model is inadequate, racially discriminatory, and perpetuates the harms from historical residential schools.

Chief Claire Sault emphasized that the case represents the struggle of all First Nations children in Ontario, highlighting ongoing barriers.

The First Nation argues that the 2019-20 interim funding model fails to meet the unique needs of First Nations students and does not provide equitable services, leading to lasting detrimental effects on children.

Canada maintains that the First Nation's claims lack specificity and acknowledges the impacts of colonialism.

This tribunal case draws on a previous ruling from 2016 confirming that Canada had racially discriminated against First Nations children in child and family services, culminating in significant settlements.

The hearing is supported by the Canadian Human Rights Commission and is expected to last 15 days.
