Utoo Radio / Native Press - March 10 2026 - The Assembly of First Nations' National Chief Cindy Woodhouse Nepinak thanked the Vatican Museum for returning 62 Indigenous artifacts to Canada after a long process.

She noted that repatriation was harder than Vatican issues.

Chief Linda Debassige of the Anishinabek Nation stressed that these artifacts were never gifts and should be returned as a symbol of healing.

Many Indigenous artifacts are culturally significant.

First Nations leaders emotionally unveiled the artifacts, emphasizing their historical and spiritual significance and advancing reconciliation.

Métis and Inuit leaders previously repatriated Vatican artifacts, including cultural items.
