Utoo Radio / Native Press - March 2 2026 - Three agreements between the Musqueam Indian Band and the federal government have been signed, enhancing the First Nation's Aboriginal rights and involvement in fisheries and marine emergency management.

The agreements include recognition of Musqueam's rights to their traditional territory, the establishment of a joint working group for resource management with the Canadian Coast Guard, and shared decision-making in fisheries.

Musqueam Chief Wayne Sparrow hailed the agreements as historic, acknowledging Musqueam's title and expertise.

The agreements reflect a nation-to-nation partnership and build on previous milestones in recognizing Aboriginal rights.

The Musqueam reserve is located near the Fraser River and the City of Vancouver, with various economic endeavors managed by the Musqueam Capital Corporation and involvement in a joint venture with Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh Nations for land development in the area.
