Utoo Radio / Native Press - March 10 2026 - Lori Idlout, a new Democratic Party MP, has joined the Liberal caucus.
This could help Prime Minister Mark Carney get a majority government if he wins the upcoming byelections.
Don Davies, the interim leader of the NDP, was disappointed and stressed that people who cross the floor should talk to their constituents.
Idlout said that the North needed strong government that would meet its needs.
She has been the representative for Nunavut since 2021.
The NDP now has only six MPs after she leaves, while the Liberals gain 170.
Carney needs two more MPs to get a majority, and byelections are set for April 13 in ridings that are likely to support the Liberal Democrats.
