Utoo Radio / Native Press - March 20 2026 - Canada has given Indigenous broadcasters $17.2 million to improve the production and broadcasting of Indigenous audio and video content.

Minister of Canadian Identity and Culture Marc Miller said that this money will help 23 radio stations, but it's only a short-term fix and a long-term solution is needed.

He stressed how important these stations are for people who live far away, especially in times of crisis.

Part of the money will also go to the Native Communications Society of the Northwest Territories.

This will let broadcasters like Judi Kochon from CKLB 101.9 FM travel and tell stories in Indigenous languages, which will help pass on culture and get Indigenous youth involved.
