Utoo Radio with Other News Sources - October 29 2025 - Gilbert Whiteduck emphasizes the significance of repatriating Indigenous artifacts from the Vatican museum as a step towards reconciliation, highlighting the need for respectful handling of these sacred items.

Discussions led by Assembly of First Nations Chief Cindy Woodhouse Nepinak are ongoing to facilitate the return, which is expected by year-end through the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops.

However, Whiteduck notes the lack of transparency regarding specific items slated for return, while Cheyenne Lazore argues for individual First Nations to identify their belongings.

Artifacts have been sought for repatriation due to their historical significance linked to residential schools.

The discussions for repatriation were reignited following a meeting between Indigenous leaders and Pope Francis.

Lazore acknowledges the potential peace that repatriation could bring but stresses that it does not equate to full reconciliation, as many children from residential schools remain unaccounted for.
