Utoo Radio with Other News Sources - November 7 2026 - Ahead of Manitoba's first Indigenous Veterans Day, ceremonies mark progress in acknowledging Indigenous contributions to the Canadian Armed Forces.

Justin Woodcock of the Southern Chiefs' Organization was optimistic about Bill 210, which legalizes Indigenous Veterans Day without annual reintroduction.

Indigenous veterans endured institutional discrimination, as shown in 1991 when Kanien'kehaka veterans were refused Remembrance Day participation.

Since then, measures have improved, and military personnel can wear beaded poppies.

Events are scheduled across the province to mark military reconciliation and healing.

Woodcock celebrated recent cultural recognition at military posts and stressed the necessity of honouring Indigenous soldiers.
