Utoo Radio with Other News Sources - December 6, 2025 - Sixty-two Indigenous cultural items, including an Inuvialuit kayak, have returned to Canada after being held in Vatican museums for a century.

The items landed at Montréal-Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport following negotiations between the Assembly of First Nations (AFN), Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami, and the Métis National Council.

Leaders emphasized the significance of repatriation for cultural identity, with plans for a public ceremony and the establishment of a First Nations-led task force for a national repatriation strategy.

Although the return is a historic step, many more Indigenous artifacts remain at the Vatican.

The items will be safeguarded by the Canadian Museum of History before being officially unboxed and examined.
